Acupuncture and Wholistic Therapies

Therapies

Acupuncture

A holistic treatment using fine needles inserted at specific points on the skin called acupoints. It is based on the principles of Taoism and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). Inserting needles in this way is considered to adjust the body’s ability to self-regulate, promoting and restoring resilience and balance to the system.

If you have specific symptoms or medical conditions which have not responded satisfactorily to conventional treatment, then acupuncture may be able to help.

Many people find acupuncture beneficial for health promotion and may return on a seasonal basis for a ‘top-up’ following a course of treatment. Alternatively, if you feel ‘out of balance’ physically, mentally or emotionally, without any clear-cut reason, then acupuncture can help here too.

A typical acupuncture session uses between 5–8 needles which are retained for approximately 15–20 minutes in most cases. You would be lying or reclining comfortably on the treatment couch in a relaxing atmosphere.

Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy

A hands-on treatment which can assist the body’s natural capacity for self-regulation and repair. The head, the sacrum and feet are the main contact points enabling, through negotiated touch, a direct connection with the craniosacral system and energetic field of the body.

The craniosacral system works on the body’s subtle physiology to help free up movement of energy and tissue fluids around the body. These are affected by earlier life events which may have been a shock to your system at the time, and can still affect your health today.

This therapy can also help with psychological and emotional questions which themselves are often linked to physical issues.

If you have pain or things are physically not quite right, there’s often a deeper dimension to it, and craniosacral therapy can help.

During a session you lie clothed on a treatment table and relax. It involves light touch and no manipulation.

Qigong

Qigong is a health promotion practice which originates from the ancient wisdom traditions of China. Qigong means “energy work” and it taps into natural flows of life energy or “qi” within the body to promote resilience, health and balance. As regular practice optimises our health it also assists in the recovery from chronic illnesses, such as cancer and viruses e.g. Covid.

More on qigong research.

I offer Qigong courses online with Wendy Bratherton and also individual sessions. The forms taught are easy to learn and typically the courses run weekly over 8-10 sessions. Participants enjoy the relaxation which comes from doing the forms, which we build up in easy steps, and they enjoy the experience of sensing the qi (energy) in their bodies.

The aim is similar with all three modalities, but they provide different routes to help you move forward on your path towards balance and health. Which therapy is best for you depends on a number of factors, where you are in your life today, and what you are drawn to.

Perhaps you have been affected by specific symptoms which have not responded satisfactorily to conventional treatment? Or maybe you are interested in actively promoting your health with occasional treatments? Here, Acupuncture might be the best.

Alternatively, you may feel drawn to a therapy which has some similarities to Acupuncture only without the needles. In this case, Light Touch Acupoint Therapy could be the best approach.

Perhaps you have physical symptoms which might have deeper roots which need to be related to. Here Craniosacral Therapy might be best.

Please read more information on this site first. If you feel there’s something for you here, get in touch to outline your situation and thoughts. Perhaps one of these therapies will act as good starting place and we can proceed from there.

By mutual agreement we will decide to do whatever feels appropriate for you.
